As is becoming increasingly apparent with each game, second baseman Chase Utley (11 HRs, 34 RBI’s, 47 R, 6 SB, .326 BA) can beat you in soo many ways. The season is just over 1/3 gone and Utley’s numbers are indeed impressive — easily All Star Class. Utley went 3 for 5 including a solo homer in the 1st inning (2 RBIs, 2 Runs) and was in the midst of all but one of the Phils’ scoring innings in this game, the exception being the one run scored in the 7th inning by Aaron Rowand (7 HR, .302 BA) on David Dellucci’s (2 HR) double.

Once again, neither starter was in on the win/loss decision as as reliever Geoff Geary (3-0) wracked up the win, his 2nd win in 2 games. Closer Tom Gordon (2-2, S17) was credited with the save. Dodgers reliever Joe Beimel (2-1, S1), who retired but one batter in the 8th inning while giving up 3 runs, was charged with the loss.

Today, the Phils open a 3 game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arizona with Cory Lidle (4-5) starting for the Phils vs unbeaten Brandon Webb (8-0, 2.01 ERA) for the Diamondbacks.
