Phils Lose to Mets, Again …

The Phils fell behind 6-0 in the first 3 innings, came back with 2 runs in their half of the 3rd and ultimately lost to the Mets 9-3.
I hate to admit it, the Phils offensive which has difficulty stringing anything together slept through the game again, as it did in the final game of the Washington series. Their defense seems totally inept — 3 errors again (6 errors in 2 games), their starters fall behind early and now, even the bullpen is feeling the wear; three relievers at 2 innings and 1 run each on a combined 6 Met hits. You’d have to look long and hard to find the last time that the Phillies had a string of error-less games.
The team is in another win a few and lose ‘em back funk. They look more like the bumbling last place Phils that I remember from the late 50’s and early 60’s than a team in 2nd place in their division. The Mets are now 8 1/2 games up. What the heck do I say to that fanatic Mets fan down the block? The kid already thinks that he has his LCS tickets in the bag.
It’s to frustrating to even write a game summary, so I’ll leave it to the dispassionate, “objective,” “even-handed” MSM guys at AP to regurgitate a recap on this one. Read it and weep.

I think that I’ll pour into the record books for some “great” Phillies moments of the late 50s, early 60s with Humberto Robinson, “Herky, Jerky” Don Erickson, Pancho Herrera, Joe Koppe, Harry “the Horse” and “pop-up” Roy Sievers.

Today, it’s Steve Trachsel (3-4) going for the Mets against Cory Lidle (4-5) as the Phils scuffle about to salvage something from this series.
