Tampa Bay jumped on Phillies rookie starter and losing pitcher Scott Mathieson (0-1) early for 2 runs in the 1st inning. When the Phils came back with 2 runs of their own; on back-to-back solo homers off of Tampa Bay starter and winning pitcher Scott Kazmir (8-4) by Abraham Nunez who hit his 1st of the season and by Sal Fasano (4 HRs), it looked like this was going to be a ballgame.

However, Tampa Bay came back in the 3rd with a solo homer by centerfielder Rocco Baldelli, his 1st of the season along with his 3 for 5 hitting day, and with a single run in the 6th off of Mathieson. Then the Devil Rays tagged the Phils bullpen for a 2 run homer by leftfielder Carl Crawford (9 HRs, .313 BA) in the 7th and a solo blast in the 8th by 2nd baseman Jorge Cantu (3 hrs) who also had a 3 for 5 hitting day. The Phils played errorless ball for a change.
