Phils Offensive Slumber Continues in Red Sox Opener …

The Phillies offense continued to slumber, despite the day off, as the Boston Red Sox jumped on Phils starter and losing pitcher Ryan Madison (7-5) for 6 runs in 1 2/3 innings enroute to a 10-2 victory behind an 8 inning 2 run, 3 hit effort by Josh Beckett (9-3) in the opener of the 4 game series.
Leftfielder Manny Ramirez (20 HRs, 50 RBIs,.296 BA) had a big night for the Boston offense hitting a 3 run homer in the 1st inning, doubling in a run in the 2nd and hitting a solo homer in the 7th. First baseman Kevin Youkilis (9 HRs, 35 RBIs, .320 BA) also drove in 2 runs in the 2nd with a base hit and Gabe Kapler (1 HR), replacing Ramirez in left field, hit his first homer of the season, a 3 run shot in the 8th to complete the scoring for Boston.

Chase Utley (13 HRs, 43 RBIs, .289 BA) drove in the Phils only 2 runs with a homer in the 7th inning.
