Rack up another walk-off homer for Boston Red Sox dh  David Ortiz (21 HRs, 64 RBIs), this one in the 10th inning as Boston defeated the Phils 5-3.

Brett Myers (5-3) and Curt Schilling (9-2) each gave up 3 runs in their 5 and 6 innings of respective work.  Then each of the bullpens shut the other team down through 9 innings, although the Phils threatened in their 9th inning, leaving runners on 2nd and 3rd base.

The Phils got off to a 2-0 lead as rightfielder Bobby Abreu (8 HRs, 49 RBIs, .287 BA) doubled home 2 runs in the first off of Schilling.   The BoSox responded with a run of their own as leftfielder Manny Ramirez (20 HRs, 50 RBIs, .296 BA) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to deep right-centerfield — 2-1 Phils.

In the Boston 3rd inning, 3rd baseman Mike Lowell (8 HRs, .310 BA) solo homered to left field.  Then the Sox got another run as 2nd baseman Mark Loretta (2 HRs, .306 BA) singled to center, scoring 1st baseman Kevin Youkilis — 3-2 Boston.

In the 7th inning, the Phils tied the game as shortstop Jimmy Rollins (9 HRs) singled to right driving in centerfielder Aaron Rowand (8 HRs).  Rollins went 3 for 5 for the game.  However the Phils left 2 on as 2nd baseman Chase Utley (13 HRs, 43 RBIs, .288 BA) grounded into an inning-endng double-play.

In the 8th, 1st baseman Ryan Howard (25 HRs, 66 RBIs, .290 BA) doubled to rightfield with 2 out.  Boston promptly put in the call for Jonathan Papelbon (2-1, ERA .25, S23) who got the side out ending the inning.

In the 9th inning, the Phils got a single from catcher Chris Coste, a double to deep center by Rollins, but Coste could only reach 3rd on the play. Utley grounded into a fielder’s choice with Coste being nailed at home.  Leftfielder Pat Burrell (18 HRs, 52 RBIs) then struck out to end the inning.

In the 10th, the Phils went down 1-2-3 and in the in the Red Sox 10th, the Phils put in Tom Gordon (2-3, ERA 2.03, S20)and Ortiz came up with a man on and 1 out and clubbed his walk-off homer.  Jon Papelbon got the win and Tom Gordon took the loss.

The Phils will try to get back on the winning side in  today’s third game of the series as Cory Lidle (4-6) faces Tim Wakefield (5-8).
