The The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Phils a second time in their 3 game series, this time by a 5-2 score on Saturday.  The loss dropped the Phillies 8 games below .500 as the season seems to be frittering away.

This time, starting and losing pitcher Cory Lidle (4-7) pitched well for 5 innings matching Toronto’s Ty Taubenheim (1-4) goose-egg for goose-egg before the bug-a-boo which the game announcers spoke about all night as being Lidle’s problem hit in the 6th inning.  In short, it’s Lidle’s inability to get through the third time around the opponent’s batting order unscathed.

                             Troy Glaus                Eric Hinske

This inability showed itself again Saturday as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 6th on shortstop-3rd baseman Troy Glaus’ (22 HRs, 57 RBIs)
and
Eric Hinske’s (6 HRs) 2 run homer, his 2nd homerun in 2 games.

                             Jimmy Rollins                  Chase Utley

The Phils came back with 2 runs in their 7th inning on an RBI triple by shortstop Jimmy Rollins (9 HRs) and an RBI single by 2nd baseman Chase Utley (15 HRs, 46 RBIs, .296 BA).  Toronto came back with 2 insurance runs in their 7th inning against newly acquired Phils reliever Rick White (1-0).

                           Scott Downs                  B.J. Ryan

Blue Jays reliever Scott Downs (2-0) who pitched the 6th inning got credit for the win and B.J Ryan (1-0, .047 ERA, S22) got credit for the save striking out 5 Phillies in the last 1 2/3 innings to nail down the win.
