In the 9th, after the Padres got a single and a walk from Arthur Rhodes who relieved Mathieson, Tom Gordon (3-3, S21) was brought in to spell Rhodes.  Gordon promptly gave up a 3 run homer to leftfield by shortstop Khalil Greene (11 HRs, 45 RBIs) to provide the winning margin in the Padres 6-3 victory.

Padres reliever Scott Linebrink (6-2) was credited with the win although he blew a save opportunity in the 8th inning and Phils reliever Arthur Rhodes was charged with the loss.  Trevor Hoffman (0-1, S21) was credited with a save.
