Between July 16th and July 21, 2006, the National League East leading New York Mets pulled off a feat which may have no match.
On Sunday July 16, 2006, the New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 13-7 after trailing the Cubs 5-2, thanks to an 11 run 6th inning which this blog gave commentary on and which saw Mets hit 2 Grand Slam homeruns.
Well the story doesn’t end there.
The Mets had an open date on July 17th. But on July 18th and on July 21st, the Mets also hit Grand Slam homers; on the 18th by centerfielder Carlos Beltran (27 HRs, 80 RBIs, .274 BA) as the Mets beat Cincinnati by an 8-3 score and on the 21st by Jose Valentin (11 HRs, 41 RBIs, .283 BA) as they shut out the Houston Astros.

Beltran, you will recall, hit one of the Grand Slams in the Cubs game on the 16th as well as the Cincinnati game on the 18th. The Mets are among the co-record holders for most Grand Slams in 2 games with 3.
That’s 4 Grand Slam homeruns in 5 playing days — a rare, if ever previously accomplished by a team in Major League Baseball history.
