New York Mets starter lefthander Oliver Perez lasted 5 2/3 innings, just long enough for the offense to bust out in a big 6 run, 6th inning pile up an 11-3 lead and to get credit for the win as the Mets routed the St. Louis Cardinals by a 12-5 score to pull even at 2 games apiece in their NLCS match-up.

The Mets big guns, centerfielder Carlos Beltran solo homered twice, in the 3rd and 7th innings while going 3 for 3, 1st baseman Carlos Delgado clubbed a 3 run homer in the 5th inning and doubled in the 6th driving in 2 more runs, 2nd baseman Jose Valentin drove in 3 runs with a bases-clearing double in the 6th and 3rd baseman David Wright solo homered in the 3rd inning as the Mets rocked starter Anthony Reyes who pitched 4 innings and the St. Louis bullpen.   Cardinal reliever Brad Thompson who lasted 1/3 of the 5th inning and was charged with giving up 3 runs was charged with the loss.

Three Cardinals solo homered in the game; leadoff hitter, shortstop David Eckstein in the 5th inning, as well as centerfielder Jim Edwards and catcher  Yadier Molino in the 6th inning.   Molino and rightfielder Juan Encarnacion also drove in 1 run apiece for the Cards.
