As previously reported, the Phillies signed starter/reliever Ryan Madson to a one-year deal and plan on using him exclusively in the bullpen in a late-inning roll in the 2007 season.

Ken Mandel of MLB.com also reports;

                             Antonio Alfonseca

Veteran reliever Antonio Alfonseca also accepted a one-year deal that could be worth up to $1.1 million, according to a Major League baseball source. The Phillies will announce the deal once the pitcher passes a physical.

Alfonseca was limited to 52 games over the past two seasons with the Rangers and Marlins. He was shut down in 2006 because of a sore right elbow. He compiled a 2.57 ERA in 79 games with Atlanta in 2004, his last full season.

Alfonseca carries a career ERA of 3.99 and a career save total of 121, 94 of them coming between 1999 and 2001 when the Florida Marlins used him in the closer role.

In addition, the PhilliesNation blog reports that the Phils acquired minor league receiver Anderson Garcia off of waivers from the AL Baltimore Orioles.

The blog reports that;

The hard-throwing 25-year old will compete for one of the many available spots available in the bullpen this spring training despite not yet playing in a major league game.  Last season, Garcia posted a 4-6 record with a 3.84 ERA in 42 appearances for five teams in the Mets’ and Orioles’ farm systems.
