Cole Hamels is beginning to give reason for concern as the exhibition season reaches the half-way mark.  The young lefthander was roughed up for the 2nd straight start  giving up 2 Toronto runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings, including 3 homers, 2 by centerfielder Vernon Wells while giving up 4 hits, walking one and striking out 4 in his 4 inning stint as the Phillies lost an 11-6 game to Toronto on Thursday night.

The Blue Jays got off to an 8-1 lead, scoring another run in the 6th inning and 3 more in the 7th inning.  Toronto starter and winning pitcher Josh Towers was solid giving up but 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 5 and walking one in his 4 inning stint, thus earning his 1st win of the exhibition season.

The Phils charged back into the game in the bottom of the 7th roughing up Toronto relievers Francisco Rosario and Matt Roney for 5 runs, featuring homers by Aaron Rowand, a solo shot, and Jason Werth, a 3 run clout — the 1st homers of the spring for each of them.

Wih the game suddenly close at 8-6, the Blue Jays scored 3 insurance runs in the 8th inning to seal the win.

Relievers Geoff Geary and Jim Ed Warden were solid pitching 1 inning apiece and allowing 2 hits beween them.  Fabio Castro (1 inning) and  Justin Germano (2 innings) were roughed up badly for 7 runs on 10 hits.  In Germano’s case, he gave up 3 runs after the Phils made the game close. But again, this is spring training and stuff happens.

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins had 2 hits in 3 at bats.
