Sunday’s series final, which would have had Joe Blanton facing John Maine, was postponed due to rain. Therefore, the Phillies have some free time on their hands and a travel day prior to their brief 2 game trip to St. Louis to face the Cardinals on Monday and Tuesday. They return east for a another brief 2 game series, this time in New York against the Mets on Wednesday and Thursday before opening a 3 game weekend series vs Atlanta on Friday.
Blanton, whose start was pushed off and who hopes to recover from his previous terrible outing, will now be opposed by unbeaten Kyle Lohse in the opener in St. Louis.
Lefthander Cole Hamels, originally tapped to start Monday has been scratched for this run of the rotation to give his ankle more time to mend. Brett Myers will face Adam Wainwright on Tuesday.
